During a departmental clear-out, technical staff used humour and creativity to encourage colleagues to adopt unwanted academic books and journals. Free items were advertised in an all-department email with invented review scores and playful critiques, mimicking the style of book reviews and recommendation websites. The light-hearted approach transformed a task into a playful shared experience, using imagination and gentle humour to engage colleagues with the clear-out process. Data on the subsequent adoption of the books remains unavailable… so unfortunately, it’s a 0/5 for availability of impact data.
